GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs have unveiled plans to adapt "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho's" (KMJS) acclaimed Halloween special "Gabi ng Lagim" into a feature film. The movie, which dramatizes real-life horror stories, will showcase performances by Sparkle artists Sanya Lopez, Jillian Ward, Miguel Tanfelix, and Elijah Canlas.
Jessica Soho expressed pride in seeing "Gabi ng Lagim," a yearly project of KMJS, transition to the big screen. She remarked, "I have long wished for this to happen, and it is truly an honor that the annual "Gabi ng Lagim" is finally being given this platform."
The film will present three chilling narratives involving a haunted ship, possession, and encounters with aswangs — mythical creatures in Philippine folklore. Sanya Lopez shared her enthusiasm about portraying a "berbalang," a type of aswang that feeds on the dead rather than the living. She noted, "This story is based on true events and inspired by accounts from Southern Mindanao. It's exciting to bring this unique folklore character to life."
Jillian Ward emphasized that the movie offers more than just scares, highlighting that it conveys meaningful lessons. She said, "The film is not only frightening but also carries deeper messages that viewers can take away."
Soho reflected on the enduring appeal of supernatural tales, stating, "Since childhood, stories about the paranormal have captivated us, and it's wonderful to share these narratives through different generations. This film adaptation is truly a dream come true for the entire KMJS team, especially its producers."
"Gabi ng Lagim" has been a staple Halloween special of "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" for 13 years, featuring spine-chilling, true-to-life horror stories. In 2024, the program invited viewers to submit their own real horror experiences for a chance to be included in this cinematic rendition.
This development signals a significant expansion for the "Gabi ng Lagim" franchise, promising to deliver authentic Filipino horror tales to cinema audiences for the first time.
