Naga City has been awarded a P6.7 million financial grant to support the development of its artificial intelligence (AI) city planner initiative, Mayor Leni Robredo announced. The project aims to advance a more efficient and people-focused approach to transport and land use planning by leveraging AI for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
Mayor Robredo expressed optimism about the grant approval by the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development, noting this endeavor will be the first of its kind in the country. She stated, "Our application for a P6.7 M grant for an AI City Planner has been approved. This will enable us to conduct more effective, people-centric transport and land use planning that is AI-empowered."
Highlighting the city’s vision for the future, Robredo added, "This marks a significant step toward achieving our goal of establishing an Open, Digital, and Participatory Naga by 2028."
The mayor also extended her gratitude to Dr. Syrus Gomari for his assistance with the grant proposal, as well as to the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development for endorsing the innovative project. The funding is expected to accelerate Naga City's utilization of AI technologies in urban development strategies, setting a precedent for digital transformation in local government planning.
